Sarah DeFord Williams: Hello. My name is Sarah DeFord Williams. I've always liked my name. As a child I liked it because Sarah meant princess, and DeFord is a French word meaning of the bridge, or of the crossing. I thought it was very romantic to have a name meaning Princess of the Bridge, or Princess of the Crossing. One thing I didn't like was that people always pronounced the name DeFord wrong. They would always say Defford, or Deeford, or sometimes Deforest, and also, whenever we met a new person, they'd always say the same jokes. "DeFord? Is that like DeChevy?" So, yeah. When I married a Williams, I was very happy because I figured no one would pronounce that name wrong, and so far, no one has. So, there you have it. Sarah DeFord Williams.
