Kate Walker: Hello. My name's Kate Walker. It wasn't always Kate Walker. I started life with the name Diane Thruin. I never liked the name Diane. I was raised a Catholic, and when you're about 10 or 11 I think, you go through a ceremony called Confirmation, in which you reconfirm your faith. As part of the ritual, you add a saint's name to the name's you've already got. Katherine it was. And strangely enough, from the day of my Confirmation, from the day I took that name, people started calling me, not Katherine, but Kate. The name stuck and mainly it stuck because I liked it. I'd found my proper name at last. Then when I was 24 I married a very nice man called Roger Walker and my change of name was complete.
