Book Description
for A Wee Boo by Jessica Boyd and Brooke Kerrigan
From Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC)
“You know what’s not scary? Cute. Cute is not scary.” This is a problem for the ghost known as Wee Boo, who is downright adorable and has failed not once but twice to get her haunting license. The other ghosts are supportive yet clearly doubt Wee Boo’s ability to succeed, trying to build her confidence while simultaneously lowering their expectations and the requirements for success. Wee Boo’s third try begins with a ghostly “Ooooooo!” to which her human victims reply, “Is that a little bird outside? Or some kind of baby animal?” Boo changes tactics again and again. When Wee Boo turns her efforts to scaring the baby in the family, the baby starts to laugh, which is surely the least promising response of all. But more than one surprise is in store for Wee Boo in this charming, funny, utterly captivating picture book featuring ghostly hued digital and mixed media illustrations punctuated by washes of color, along with one very cute ghost. (Ages 3-6)
