Book Description
for Luka's Quilt by Georgia Guback
From Cooperative Children's Book Center (CCBC)
The traditional Hawaiian quilt Luka's tutu (grandmother) makes for her looks nothing like the elaborate, brightly colored quilt Luka had pictured in her head, and she cannot hide her disappointment when Tutu presents it to her. When the two attend a Lei Day celebration, Luka's nontraditional approach to lei-making gives Tutu an idea about enhancing the quilt to suit both generations. Charming cut-paper collages reveal a surprising amount of cultural detail through the folk-art-style illustrations. (Ages 4-8)
