As with the previous three books in this series, the author’s crisp, poetic text is immeasurably extended by stunning photographs of children partak ing in routine activities. Homework, chores, meals, games, and family rituals appear in various cultural depictions. Kerley ends with an explanation of the “spirit behind these books” (42)—her time in Nepal as a Peace Corps volunteer. Thumbnails of each photo, photographic credits, location, and a detailed explanation of the pictured activity introduce the back matter. Additionally, there is a world map, on which each picture’s location is pin pointed and identified. lmp
